Diary of Edith M. Philbrook

She lived with her grandparents, Ambrose, 76 years old, and Lydia, 74, Philbrook, their son, Ambrose, age 44, listed as a sailor, single.

According Edith’s obituary (found in the LHS OBIT book) the 44 year old Ambrose was her widowed father, her mother dying when Edith was 6 months old. The family lived at 2537 Atlantic Highway.

Edith married Orren Ames of Lincolnville in 1883 and they had one son, Russell.

The diary is a small, leather-bound book.

Pleasant and quite warm. I went over to see Georgie and stayed to dinner. Mrs. and Captain Harkness were at Mrs. C’s also John and wife. Georgie and I went to meeting tonight – Sar house

Quite windy. I went over to Georgie’s for a few minutes. Came back home to dinner, then Fred took me into the sleigh and brought me home. It was a beautiful fentino? I went to Mrs. Drinkwater’s

Pleasant. Mr. Brackett called. Grandfather went downstreet for the first time since November 27. Alice Dyer called. Carrie Chandler was in this afternoon. Went to Mrs. French’s tonight.

Sunday, January 4

Rainy. I called at Mrs. French’s and Edie [COULD BE THE ELLIE FRENCH, 18, WHO LIVED ONE HOUSE AWAY FROM THE PHILBROOKS] went to the Trap with me. I went to see Maggie. Edie and Mr. Brackett called. I called at Mrs. Chandler’s tonight.

January 5

Clear and windy. I helped Mrs. French cut her mother’s dress. This afternoon I cut my circular and this evening finished my tidy.

January 6

Cloudy. Mr. Brackett came up and made the hood to my cloak. Charlie P., Jim Perry, and Annie Adams were here. Annie stayed to dinner. Snow this afternoon. D. called me and I went into Mrs. French’s.

January 7

Pleasant. I finished my cloak. Called at Mrs. Tarbell’s this afternoon. Was taken sick and had to come home and am very sick tonight.

January 8

Pleasant. Frank, Link and Jim Perry were over but did not come up. Hanson came about 11 a.m. and went away tonight. In the stage Mrs. French called. I have been sick all day. A dance at the hall tonight.

Pleasant. Grandfather went downstreet [TO THE BEACH?]three times today. Mr. Brackett called. I called at Mrs. Tarbell’s and Mrs. French’s this afternoon. Wrote to Laura tonight.

Very pleasant. I went out to Mr. William’s this forenoon. Found them all well. Stayed all day. Maggie came up this afternoon. Frank Turner and wife came. Mag and I came home. Avery and George were here tonight.

January 12

Foggy. I did not wash. Avery came up and sawed wood. Was here to dinner. Mrs. Si and Mrs. Hollis French called. Avery, Gram and I went into Mrs. French’s tonight. Raining.

January 13

Snow and very cold. George and Avery were up to breakfast. John B. called. Edie and Junior called. Mr. Chandler was in this evening.

Quite pleasant. I washed. The boys went home. Mrs. French, Mr. Chandler and Edie were in this eve.

January 15

Pleasant. John Brackett called. Mrs. Chandler was in this afternoon. I called at Mrs. Tarbell’s. Was at home all this eve. Marian Meservey called.

Cloudy. John Bracket and Mrs. Drinkwater called. Mrs. D and Grandmother called at Mrs. Chandler’s. Dr. Sloan was here. I went into Mrs. F’s tonight.

Sunday, January 18

Foggy. Lucy and Grandmother called at Mrs. Drinkwater’s. L. and I started for Cobbtown about half past twelve. Mag came a little way with me. Rain very hard tonight.

January 19

Pleasant. I came to my school this morning. Had six scholars. I called at Mrs. Turner’s after school.

January 20

Cloudy and snow squalls. McKenzie went to the Beach. I had a letter from Laura. Came from school and found Charlie P. here. Mr. Mc and George Tarbell called.

January 21

A very bad snowstorm. Fred Bryant came after us to haul us to school. Maurice came and brought our dinners. Lucy did not go. Mr. McKenzie and George Tarbell were in this evening.

January 22

Pleasant. Jim Perry came up at noon and stayed to my school. He stayed all night at Mr. Williams. Mr. McKusik called. Cloudy tonight.

January 23

A pouring rainstorm. We went to school. Cleared off about noon. Maurice and Jim Perry tonight came to dinner. I dismissed school at 8:30 and started for home at – I was one hour and ten minutes walking home.

Pleasant. I washed floors, cooked, ironed, and made a clam chowder for supper. M. Chandler called and John Brackett called once Jennie French called. Mr. Williams called.

Sunday, January 25

Very pleasant. Avery, Link, and Hunt did come over, stayed a short time. I walked up to Cobbtown this afternoon, found Mag out there, she went home in the evening.

Pleasant. Mr. Williams went to the beach. We went on the pond. Had a nice time.

January 27

Stormy. Mrs. Turner called. George Tarbell was in this evening.

January 28

Pleasant. We went over to Mrs. Turner’s, stayed the evening, had a good time.

Clear and cold. Mr. Mc built my fire, he stayed at school all day. He and Fred Bryant came up and stayed the evening.

January 30

Cloudy. I did not go to dinner. Mr. Williams brought our dinner. Mr. Mc. came to school this afternoon. I dismissed school at 3:30. Maurice walked down to the Trap with me. Mr. Brackett called tonight.

Rainy this morning but cleared off, quite windy. Mr. Chandler called twice. Mr. Brackett called. Jennie F. and Mamie M. called. Mrs. French went to Camden.

Pleasant. I called at Mrs. Chandler’s. Grand+. Maurice came down and I went out to Cobbtown. A very heavy snow squall tonight. Very cold tonight.

February 2

Very cold. Mr. Mc. built my fire. Mr. M and Maurice came and brought some wood for the schoolhouse.

February 3

A snowstorm. Mr. Mc. and Maurice went to the Beach. I had a billet from Graham. A lovely snowstorm tonight. Mr. Ware came and hauled us from the school.

February 4

Quite cold. Maurice built my fire at the schoolhouse. The snow was quite deep.

February 5

Quite pleasant. Mrs. Williams washed. Mr. Mc., George Tarbell and Fred Bryant called tonight. Mr. Williams went to the Beach.

February 6

Pleasant. I closed school at half past three and Maurice walked down with me. Found Aunt L., George and Chester here. Mr. Brackett, Mrs. French and Mr. Chandler called.

Cloudy. I washed. Aunt L. made the pies. Elder R. and wife called. Mr. Brackett, Saul Palmer, and Mr. Chandler called. Gram and Aunt L. went over to Mr. Chandler’s tonight. A snowstorm.

Pleasant. Aunt L. and G. went home. Mr. Brackett called twice. Maurice came down and I went up to Cobbtown.

Very cold. Annie Ware and Arthur came up with us after school. Arthur had his hair cut.

A snowstorm and frosty. Quite deep tonight. Mr. W. and Maurice were over tonight.

Quite pleasant. Lucy, Inez and I went over to Capt. Drinkwater’s, stayed the evening.

February 12

A snowstorm and then afterwards a rainstorm. Maurice went over to Minot Drinkwater’s.

Cloudy. I came down home after school. Maurice came down with me. Found Lincoln W. here. He stayed over tonight and went to the Masquerade Ball.

A rainstorm. Link did not come from the Ball until morning. He went home this forenoon in a snowsquall. I washed some. Called at Mrs. French’s and at Mrs. Tarbell’s this evening.

Snowy. Frank and George came over and brought the hay. Frank went up to Cobbtown with me, found Marg there and she came down with him.

Quite cold. Frank came up to school stayed all day. Lucy came down with him. L. went to Lodge sociable and I stayed at home and waited for her.

February 17

Pleasant. Mrs. W. washed. Mr. W went to the Beach with the oxen. Mr. McKusik came up and played Authors with us tonight. Very windy.

February 18

Windy. Mrs. W. dried the clothes. Mr. Mc came up again tonight.

February 19

Cold. We talked of going up to Minot Drinkwater’s but thought it too cold. Mr. M came played Authors.

Cold. I walked home tonight, found Gram and Grandpa all alive. Gram and I called at Mrs. Tarbell’s tonight.

Very windy this morning. I washed. Snow’s very hard this afternoon. We commenced in a new barrel of flour today.

Very pleasant indeed. Grandmother and I called at Mrs. Drinkwater’s and I called at Mrs. Chandler’s twice. Fred Chandler carried me up to Cobbtown tonight.

February 23

A heavy snowstorm. Frank Turner moved to Cobbtown today. His wife came to Mr. W’s to supper.

February 24

Snow very deep this morning. Maurice hauled us to school and came after us tonight. Charles Bryant, Mr. Mc and Maurice were at school this afternoon.

February 25

Pleasant. Mr. W. hauled us to school and then went to the Beach. We heard today that Charles Nash is dead. Rain tonight at 9:00.

Foggy. Inez went up at noon and brought our dinners. The committee and Mr. Ames came into school. Rains hard tonight.

Very pleasant. I walked down home tonight. Very hard traveling. I went to a party over to the hall and was there until half past twelve.

Pleasant this morning, but foggy tonight. Mamie called. Mr. Chandler called. Gram and I went to Mrs. French’s tonight.

Rainy. Grandmother and I called at Mrs. Mathews, Mrs. Chandler’s, Mrs. French’s and Mrs. Drinkwater’s. I did not go to Cobbtown today.

March 1

Cold. Fred Chandler carried me up to Cobbtown. Found all right. We went up to Minot Drinkwater’s, stayed the evening, had a good time.

Cold. Mr. Williams has not got back from the Island yet. Maurice and McKusik went to Slab City to a Lyceum [AT THE SLAB CITY SCHOOL?]

Stormy. Mr. W. came off the Island. Frank Turner and wife came over and spent the evening.

Very pleasant. We all went over to Frank Turner’s this evening.

Friday. I walked down to the wharf and Maurice brought me down in the boat, found Ella here. Was glad to see her. Got a letter from Mr. Farley and one from Flora.

Pleasant. I washed. Mrs. Rhodes called and Gram went to meeting with her. Carrie C. called. Inez came, stayed the afternoon. Marg L. and Orren came.

Pleasant. Ella went home. Orren Wade carried her over. Mr. Chandler called twice. Maurice came down and I went up to Cobbtown. Cloudy and overcast tonight.

March 8

Snowy this morning. Maurice went to town meeting. Minot Drinkwater and wife came and spent the evening. Holman Mc[KUSIK] was up tonight.

Cloudy and stormy some. Maurice and Minot Drinkwater went to Slab City to a Lyceum.

Quite pleasant. Holman M. went to the Beach. Lucy had a letter from the Island and she will go Saturday. We all went over to Frank Turner’s tonight.

Pleasant but cold. Lucy stayed at home this forenoon to wash. Minot and wife came again tonight.

Snow this morning. Maurice and Holman went to the Beach this morning. Pleasant this afternoon. I came down home. Inez, Lucy, Maggie and Maurice came down with me.

A snowstorm. Mr. Chandler called. Maurice came down after me and I went up with him. We got here after dark, found all gone. Mr. and Mrs. W. went down to McKuskiks.

Pleasant. We went to school. Tonight went down to Turners a short time.

A snowstorm. Maurice and Mr. W. were both away tonight.

Pleasant. Maurice hauled us to school. I called at Mary McCobb’s tonight and to Mr. Ware’s. Went home to tea and then down to Holman’s.

Pleasant. Lovie Richards came to school. We got cedar and evergreen and ornamented the schoolroom. Frank and wife, Charles Bryant and Fred were up this evening.

Pleasant. Maggie came up this morning. The last day of my school today and I feel sorry. Company this afternoon. Mrs. Williams, Mrs. C. Turner, Mrs. F. Turner, Mter, Orren Ames, George Tarbell, Lovey Richards, Maurice and Holman and Maggie.

Cloudy. I washed. George came over from the Island. Stayed until this afternoon and I went home with him. It snowed all the time we were going over. Found all well. Emma Thomas was at Aunt L’s.

Very pleasant. Laura came down to Aunt L’s to dinner. Aunt L and I went up to Aunt Julia’s and stayed the evening.

A snowstorm. Ella and I went up to Laurie’s to spend the day. It stormed so hard that we shall stay all night.

Very windy. We did not get down to Uncle J’s until dinnertime. Bertha Thomas was in tonight after we were in bed.

Quite windy. Ella and I went down to Aunt Henrietta’s, called at Jim’s on the way. We stayed the afternoon and evening at Aunt H’s. I called to see Carrie tonight.

Pleasant very early then some snow squalls. Inez and I went to call on Mrs. Rivers and Mrs. Hahn. I came home after dinner. Maurice came. Mrs. Bullock and Mrs. Drinkwater were here.

Quite clear and cold. Annie Ware called. Mr. Chandler called and Mr. Harris Prock came with him to see about my taking the school in his district. [SHORE SCHOOL?]Gram went downstreet.

Quite windy. George and Frank started to go to Camden but the wind blew so hard they had to stop. D. Williams called. Eliza Hahn and her mother called.

Still continues windy. The boys did not start for Camden today. Mr. Chandler called twice. Mrs. Chandler called. Mrs. French and I went downstreet.

Foggy the first part of the day. George and Frank went to Camden Mr. Chandler called. I went up to Mrs. Adams. Brought milk and made a clam chowder. Called at Mrs. Chandler’s tonight.

April 12

Very cold. Gram and I put in a comfortable. I went up to the Trap this afternoon, got some lime. Edie French went with me. I called at Mrs. French’s tonight.

April 13

Quite raw and cold. Mr. Chandler went to Camden and I went with him. Went up to Mrs. Curtis’s. Saw Georgie. Was very tire when I got home tonight.

April 14

Pleasant. I commenced to clean house. Had a letter from Dora. Whitewashed and cleaned the front chamber. Set the bed up in the front chamber. I served this eve. Mr. Carver called.

April 15

Pleasant. I cleaned my room and washed both entries upstairs and down, whitewashed and cleaned the little bedroom. Mr. Chandler went up country. Had a letter from Add.

April 16

Pleasant. I whitewashed and cleaned the front room, put the carpet down, put up the curtains and put the carpet down in the little bedroom. Mr. Prock called and also Mrs. Mathews, Jennie, and Amanda.

April 17

A snowstorm. I cooked some and then washed the larger bedroom. Had a letter from Harner. Called at Mrs. French’s this afternoon.

Cold. Gram called at Mrs. Chandler’s. Mary came down. Mrs. Chandler and Mrs. Bullock called.

Quite pleasant. Mrs. Rhodes called. I cleaned the large bedroom this afternoon. Mattie Mathews called. I called at Mrs. Chandler’s tonight.

Stormy. I cleaned the large pantry and porch entry. Whitewashed for Mrs. French. We called at Mrs. French’s tonight.

Pleasant. Aunt L. came over. I cleaned the porch and we moved the stove. Maurice was over. We called at Mrs. Chandler’s tonight.

Cloudy. I cleaned the front entry and whitewashed the sitting room. Aunt L. and I went downstreet. Went to Mrs. French’s tonight.

Pleasant. I got a ride tonight. After school Mrs. Bullock called. After tea Sarah Pendleton and Lilie Warren called.

Pleasant. I went to school and was late. I kept until after four to make it up. Mr. Chandler called.

Cloudy. Mrs. Mathews, Carrie Chandler and Mrs. Collamer called. I called at Mrs. Chandler’s tonight.

Stormed some but soon cleared off. I sewed on my dress tonight. Mr. Ross was in today.

Pleasant. Lillie Mahoney and Lavaughn Loveland came up here this morning.

May 19

Cloudy. I went in to Robert Perry’s and got some shoes but they did not fit so I am to carry them back. I sewed on my dress.

Cloudy. We heard of the death of Bon Warren. He fell from a loft and was killed. Had a very heavy thundershower tonight.

Pleasant. The Boston boat called here. Mrs. Collemer and Sarah called. Saul Palmer was here.

Foggy part of the day. Had a letter from father. I had school today. Mr. Chandler worked here. Mrs. Fields was here to tea. I rode up with Annie May F. tonight. Mrs. Pendleton and Dell’s wife called.

Foggy. I slept a part of the day. Called to see Carrie at. Mrs. Collamer called here. Gram went in to Mrs. Drinkwater’s.

Pleasant. Lavaughn Loveland came up and walked down with me. Had a letter from Father tonight. Eliza Hahn, Mrs. Mathews, and Mr. Collamer called.

Very warm. Lillie and the baby came down this morning and Judy and Sarah came this afternoon. I called to see Carrie tonight.

Pleasant. Mr. Chandler finished my garden. Frank came over, brought Laura, Ella, Ethel and Flora. I did not see them. Mrs. French called. Had a letter from Dora.

Pleasant. Very warm. I worked in my flower garden this morning and tonight when I got home. David C. Hatch and men were here. The first hand organ of the season came along today.

Cloudy and rain. Quite cool. I did not get home until six o’clock tonight. I worked in my garden. Mrs. Mathews and Mattie called.

Quite windy. Mr. Chandler called. Maggie Williams came down this afternoon and stayed to tea. Then she went to Lodge.

Quite pleasant . Carrie called. I rode up with Charlie Fields [23 year old son of Joseph Fields of Cobbtown Road] tonight, a shower and Gram called at Mrs. Carver’s.

Rainy this morning. I went to school. Mr. Collamer called tonight. I rode up with Mrs. Freeman.

Jennie carried me to school. Pleasant. Mrs. Field came down this morning to assist Grandma about quilting. Mrs. Frohock and Mrs. Bullock came. Aunt Lydia and Laura came this afternoon. Aunt L. stayed all night. Hannah Fields stayed all night.

Pleasant. Grandmother churned and I cleared up the front chamber. Mrs. Collamer and Mrs. Warren called. Frank Duncan and Ambrose Warren went after Aunt. L. She came tonight.

Pleasant. Charles Chandler called. Alton S. Came and sawed wood. I went to Camden, rode down with Mr. Mathews of the hotel. Did my shopping and went up to Mrs. Curtis’s. Stayed all night.

Cloudy. I walked home this forenoon. Started at 8:15 and reached home at about 11. Found Grandfather quite ill. Amanda and Mrs. Chandler called. Mr. Mathews ate up here tonight.

Pleasant. I made some pies. Carrie called. I sewed on Gram’s dress. Mrs. Drinkwater called. Job Pendleton and Mr. Mathews sat up here. I served until 11:00.

Pleasant. I did not get up until late. Finished Gram’s dress. Grampa seems to grow worse. Carrie called. John French and Mrs. Clark sat up. Grampa died about 11:30 p.m. [HE WAS 76 YEARS OLD AND IS BURIED IN MAPLEWOOD] He is at rest from all his sorrows.

Cloudy and looks stormy. I went down to Stimp Rhodes to get him to go after Elder R. He went but he could not come. Rain tonight. We are very lonely indeed. Mr. Tarbell and Job P. sat up.

November 12

Clear and quite windy. Uncle Jabez, Aunt Eliza, Laura and Georgie came over. Elder Philbrook took charge of funeral services. After funeral the island folks were going home but no one came for them and they stayed.

November 13

Windy and cold. The island folks went home this forenoon. Gram and I worked all day. Allie Dyer, Mattie Mathews, Lillie, Dell and Mr. Mathews called. Another cord of wood was hauled today. Maurice W. was here to tea. Mrs. Munroe and Mamie called. Mrs. French and Edie stayed all night.

Sunday, November 14

Cold. Mrs. French and Edie stayed some time after breakfast. Mag W. called. I called up to Sarah Pendleton’s, Mrs. Drinkwater’s and Mrs. Chandler’s.

November 15

A snowstorm, the first snow of the season. I washed. Uncle Jackson came over. Grace Frohock called. Snows very hard. Capt. Dyer went away. Joe Fields called. Mrs. F. and Edie stayed here.

November 16

Pleasant. Dell W. called Gram, went up to Grace Frohock’s. Mamie M. called. Mrs. Addie Frohock called, also Annie May, Allie Dyer, Eliza H. Mag W. called, Mrs. F. and E. stayed all night.

November 17

Cloudy. I went over to Mrs. Chandler’s. Finished my skirt. Mrs. Collamer stayed all night here. Sarah and Rosie called.

November 18

Cloudy. I went over to Mrs. Drinkwater’s and borrowed a nightdress pattern, cut and made my flannel nightdress. Eliza Hahn, Nora Warren called. Mrs. F. and E. stayed all night.

November 19

Cold. Eliza Hahn called. I went over to Mrs. Keene’s twice. Commenced a pleated waist for myself. Mr. Mathews called tonight. Mag W. called. Mrs. F. and E. stayed all night.

November 20

Stormy. We cooked some. Eliza H. called twice. Rained very hard tonight. I finished my waist. We stayed alone tonight.

Sunday, November 21

Very windy and quite cold. Alice Dyer called to get some sour milk. I wrote to Dora. Mrs. Chandler ate dinner here. Mrs. Collamer, Sarah, Mrs. Dyer, Mrs. Heal, Eve Richards, Edie French and Will Gardner called. Very cold.

November 22

Cold and windy. I went downstreet, bought one bushel cranberries, one pound tea, four pounds sugar, eleven yards sheeting. I served for Gram. Mrs. Job Pendleton called. Mr. Collamer and Rosa called.

November 23

Cold and windy. We churned and I made pies. Served some. Fred Chandler called. Mrs. Jane Frohock. Eve Richards came up and got some milk.

November 24

Cold. I made some apple pies and we killed a chicken. Mr. Mathews called. There was a Levee at the Hall tonight. I did not go. Gram and I went over to Mrs. Chandler’s.

November 25

A snowstorm. Thanksgiving Day. Cleared off at noon. We ate our dinner all alone. Mrs. Collamer called. I went over to the office with Edie. Mag W. came tonight.

November 26

Quite cold. Mrs. Collamer, Mrs. French, and Mrs. H. Munroe called. Mrs. Tarbell came in and stayed the evening. Mr. Tarbell came after her about nine o’clock.

November 27

Pleasant and warmer than usual. Alice Dyer called. Carrie C. came over this afternoon. George and Charlie J. came tonight. Eliza H. called. Fred C. came and stayed the eve.

Sunday, November 28

Pleasant. Charlie went up to Johnson’s, stayed to dinner. Grandmother went to meeting. Cloudy. Charles came back tonight.

November 29

Foggy. I did not wash but put my clothes in soak. The boys tried to sell what clams and lobster they could. Mrs. Collamer, Mrs. F., and Mrs. Elzira R. called.

November 30

Clear and cold. I washed. George went out back to see his clams and lobsters. Charlie sawed a little wood. George got back about dark. Did not have very good luck.

December 1

A cold snowstorm. Mr. Isaac Mathews called. Charlie went up to Johnson’s a little while. I ironed. George sawed some wood. Charlie did not come until after dark.

December 2

Snows a little this morning. The boys went home. Soon cleared off. Jennie F. got home this morning. Elzira Rhodes called here. I called to Mrs. French’s and Mrs. C’s. Went to the office.

December 3

Clear but quite cold and windy. I called to Mrs. French’s. Eve R. came and got some milk. Edie F. called. I called up to Mrs. Adams this afternoon. Went to Lyceum down to the lower district [DUCKTRAP SCHOOL?] with Elena Rhodes and Ida Alexander.

December 4

Pleasant. Gram called at Mrs. Drinkwater’s. Lucy and Inez came down. Gram went to meeting. We all went down to Mrs. Keene’s. The girls went home about eight o’clock.

Sunday, December 5

Cloudy. Mag W. and I walked out to Cobbtown. Snowed hard before one o’clock. Mckusik brought us home. Rained very hard tonight.

December 6

Pleasant. Gram churned. Eliza Hahn stayed here all the afternoon. Jennie F. and Nettie Hill called. Carrie came over this evening. I made ten buttonholes in Jennie’s dress.

December 7

Pleasant. Gram went up to John Frohock’s to spin some. I went downstreet after dinner. Saw Uncle Jake and Ebb Hopkins. Jennie and Net Hill went away in the stage.

December 8

Cloudy. I went downstreet twice. Elzira Rhodes and Ida Alexander called here. George and Charlie came over tonight.

December 9

Very pleasant. Edie F. went to Belfast in the stage. I called at Mrs. Tarbell’s twice.

December 10

A bad snowstorm. Mrs. French called this afternoon. Edie came home tonight. We all went over there stayed the eve. Cold.

Cold but clear. Mr. Mathews called. Elzira Rhodes called and I went to the office with her. George went home tonight. Mrs. Dyer and Maggie Williams were here.

Cloudy. I called at Mrs. Drinkwater’s. Mag W. and I went up to see Esther M. Stayed a part of the evening here. After she went I went over to Mrs. Chandler’s.

Stormy. I washed and put the clothes to soak. Edie called. Flora Pendleton called. I called at Mrs. Mathews. Mrs. Carver and Amanda and Charlie P. stayed here.

Pleasant. I put my clothes out. It soon clouded up. Mr. Mathews called. Mattie and Hannah Adams called this afternoon. Mrs. Lacy French called tonight. Charlie went home.

A bad storm. I did not get up until 10 o’clock. Charlie came over from the island. I had a letter from Father. I wrote to him. Went over to Mrs. F’s tonight. Maurice called.

Cold. I called at Mrs. French’s, got the rest of my clothes dry. Charlie stayed here tonight. Quite cold. Mrs. F. and Edie called.

Clear and cold. Charlie stayed until noon. Mrs. French went to Camden tonight. I went down to Lyceum in the lower District. Edie stayed all night here.

Cloudy. Charlie ate dinner here. I went to the Masonic installation tonight. We heard by telegram that Avery Warren was drowned at sea the 15th.

Clear. Charlie went away this morning. Johnson brought his little girl down to stay all day. I went over to the Tel. Offs. tonight.

Quite mild. Chesley Perry and Alexander came up after wood. I wrote to Add and to Father. Eve Richards and Dora Achorn called. I went over to the Office with Edie.

Cloudy. I cooked some. Mrs. French and Edie went to Camden. I called at Mrs. Chandler’s. There was a dance tonight.

Cloudy and no snow on the ground. Mrs. Chandler, Mrs. Hollis F., Elzira Rhodes and Aunt Lucy Bullock called. I called on the Sherman girls. Mrs. Williams stayed all night.
